Kidney Health eGFR Calculator
Calculate your estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR) using the CKD-EPI 2021 formula - the standard for assessing kidney function in people with diabetes.
Educational estimator only - not medical advice.
Normal: 0.6-1.2 mg/dL (men), 0.5-1.1 mg/dL (women)
Range: 18-100 years
Enter your serum creatinine and details above to calculate your eGFR and CKD stage.
This calculator uses the CKD-EPI 2021 (Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration) equation - the current gold standard for estimating kidney function. The 2021 update removed the race coefficient, making it equally applicable across all ethnicities.
x 0.9938^Age x (1.012 if female)
Where: k = 0.7 (female), 0.9 (male)
a = -0.241 (female), -0.302 (male)
Scr = serum creatinine in mg/dL
eGFR (estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate) measures how well your kidneys filter waste products from blood, expressed as mL per minute per 1.73m^2 of body surface area. A lower eGFR means reduced kidney function.
Note: For umol/L creatinine, conversion is: mg/dL = umol/L / 88.42. A single eGFR reading is used for staging; CKD diagnosis requires two readings >=90 days apart.
Diabetic kidney disease (diabetic nephropathy) is one of the most common complications of long-term diabetes. Chapter 14 of Figuring Out Diabetes: Mature explains how blood sugar and blood pressure affect kidney function - and what you can do to protect your kidneys.
Read: FOD Mature, Ch 14This calculator is for educational and informational purposes only. eGFR results are estimates and may be affected by factors including acute illness, muscle mass, medications, and diet. CKD staging requires clinical context and at least two measurements >=90 days apart. Always consult your doctor or nephrologist for interpretation of kidney function results and any changes to your care plan.
