This calculator is based on the CDC Prediabetes Risk Test - a validated, evidence-based screening tool used by the American Diabetes Association. Each risk factor contributes points to your total score.
Age scoring: 40-49 = 1 pt, 50-59 = 2 pts, 60+ = 3 pts
BMI scoring: 25-29.9 = 1 pt, 30-39.9 = 2 pts, >=40 = 3 pts
A score of 5 or higher indicates increased risk. The CDC recommends anyone with a score >=5 speak with their healthcare provider about a prediabetes blood test (fasting glucose or HbA1c).
Pre-diabetes means your blood glucose is higher than normal but not yet in the diabetes range. In India alone, an estimated 136 million people have pre-diabetes - and most don't know it.
The critical insight: pre-diabetes is largely reversible. Research shows that lifestyle changes - losing 5-7% of body weight and exercising 150 minutes per week - can reduce progression to Type 2 diabetes by up to 58%. In older adults (60+), the reduction can reach 71%.
Early detection gives you the best window for reversal. A simple fasting glucose or HbA1c test from your doctor is all that's needed to confirm pre-diabetes status.
FOD Starter covers exactly what's happening in your body before and after a diabetes diagnosis - including why early detection changes everything, and what practical steps you can take today.
FOD Starter: Ch 1-2 - The DiagnosisThis risk score is for educational and screening purposes only. It is not a medical diagnosis. A high score does not confirm pre-diabetes or diabetes - only a clinical blood test can do that. Always consult your healthcare provider for diagnosis and personalised advice.
